OHIP Billing Audits and Inquiries

The way a health professional responds to a OHIP billing audit affects not only the billings at issue but the way he or she bills in the future.

We have recently seen an increase in interest by the media and advocacy groups into the fees health professionals are charging for services – and a corresponding vigilance on the part of the Ministry of Health and Long-term Care in reviewing and inquiring about their billings – both to OHIP and to patients.

Health professionals who charge for both uninsured and OHIP services need to have their billing practices reviewed by legal counsel. And no inquiry from the Ministry or the College about billings should be answered without the assistance of counsel as well.
