“My approach to advocacy in all forums is the same: show the decision maker the way to a solution that benefits the client.”

Lonny Rosen is a founding partner of the firm, having established Rosen Sunshine with his partner Elyse Sunshine in 2011, with whom he has practised since 1999.

Lonny’s practice is focused on health and regulatory law, and he has specialized in this area since 1999. In 2006, Lonny became certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in Health Law.

Lonny is a lawyer, practising in the areas of health and regulatory law. He is also a teacher (Adjunct Professor of Osgoode Hall Law School, teaching Health Law), and a member of and contributor to organizations such as the Canadian and Ontario Bar Associations (Chair of the OBA and CBA Health Law Sections), The Advocates’ Society (Director from 2014-2018) and the Medico-Legal Society of Toronto (Council member and Chair of an annual program). For ten years, he served as an adjudicator (Senior Lawyer Member of the Consent and Capacity Board),

In these roles, whether advocating for parties in a proceeding, supporting tribunals as independent legal counsel, or serving as a trusted advisor to clients, Lonny is duty-bound to be prepared, to be knowledgeable about the subject matter, to exercise good judgment, and to provide best efforts and the highest degree of professionalism to his work.

When representing clients in proceedings, it is also Lonny’s role to give clients a realistic assessment of their cases and to coach them on how to conduct themselves in litigation and regulatory proceedings so as to obtain the best possible outcome.

Similarly, when supporting tribunals or advising clients, Lonny’s role is to anticipate issues and help clients to manage these in the least disruptive manner possible. Lonny is fortunate to have such a variety of clients and to have the opportunity to serve in all of these capacities, and he feels that it is truly an honour to do so.

Lonny is proud to have received recognition for his work: In 2016, he was named the inaugural recipient of the OBA Susan Hilary Davidson Memorial Award for Excellence in Health Law. Lonny is included in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory as Consistently Recommended for Professional Liability. He has been ranked one of the “Best Lawyers in Canada” for Health Care Law every year since 2014, and in 2020 he was included in Who’s Who Legal as a Global Leader in Health Care Law, receiving the ranking of “Recommended”.

Perhaps most importantly, Lonny is a father, a husband, a partner, and a friend. He enjoys spending time with his immediate and extended family and close friends, especially at his cottage in Thornbury, Ontario, skiing and snowboarding, bike riding, cooking, preparing smoked meat feasts, dining out, eating, travelling and laughing.
